The following information might be useful to you if you would like to help your child at home. Please talk to your child about what they have done in their school day.
Overview of our learning.
In Year 1 we like to think of it as 'building blocks' between children's learning experience in Foundation Stage and preparing the children for their responsibilities that come later in school. During the children's time in Year 1, we build on previous learning experiences and skills and encourage each individual to take steps and build on further their learning and independence.
Our Topic this term: Spectacular Seaside
Key Text: The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister and The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch by Ronda and David Armitage
Overview of our topic: Our topic is based on the history of the Great Fire of London, which has lots of exciting links to History.. We will be looking at past and how things in those days are different to now, such as firefighters. The book will further be used to enhance the children's learning experiences with curriculum links to all other subject areas to make learning fun and exciting.
Literacy - Key Themes:
Maths - Key Themes:
This term we will be focusing on reading and writing numbers to 20, learning and recalling number facts to 20.
Our scheduled hall time is Tuesday Afternoon. This half term we will be looking at Throwing and Catching along with Dance.
In some circumstances our PE slot may not be available (visitors in) and may have to be moved. Due to this reason please can you make sure your child has their PE kit in school every day.
Sometimes PE will be outside, which will mean children will need warm clothing and trainers as well as indoor PE kit with plimsolls. If jewellery is worn please remove this on PE days.
Homework is very important as it helps your child to go over and practice what they have learnt in school. It also helps to keep you informed on their current progress and topics within the classroom. Homework will vary each week to do with our topic including: writing, maths and creative skills.
Spellings and reading three times a week is also essential to help your child to develop and progress. In Year One we will read with the children continually in the class through whole class, group and independent activities. Each week we will try to read the child's home reading book with them and evidence this in their reading record.
