Miss Heafford's Challenge: Experimenting with Plants
Today's suggested challenge is a science experiment exploring what happens if you put a plant in coloured water. If you complete this experiment then in a couple of days time the leaves and/or petals of the plant should turn the colour of the food colouring and if you cut the stem in half then you will be able to see how the stem works as a tube for the water to travel up because it will be the colour of the food colouring. It is a nice ongoing experiment that usually promotes a lot of conversation!
If you do not have food colouring then you could always try an experiment with light instead (placing plants in a light space and covering one up so that it is in total darkness and observing the effects that has on the plants.
