Welcome to the Maths page!

On this page you will find materials to help you support your child with maths work at home. Take a look at the links and documents below and get stuck into some fun maths!

At Richard Hill Primary School we follow a mastery approach to teaching Maths. This means all children are taught the same elements of Maths and given the same opportunities to achieve the same outcomes. We support children in their own learning in a number of ways to ensure that every child succeeds daily in their Maths learning. We ensure that we engage children in Maths and make their learning relevant to both every day and real life scenarios.

We use the Power Maths scheme to support children's Maths learning at school. This provides the children will exciting and engaging learning, as well as helping us to ensure coverage and challenge for children of all ages.

We also support children by providing them with the Concrete - Pictorial - Abstract approach to our mathematics lessons. The concrete equipment shown in the calculation policy is a guidance of the method that we are using. Using everyday items found at home can be applied to the same concepts. Different methods or calculation are introduced to children at different times throughout their education at Richard Hill, please refer to the calculation policies below or speak to your class teachers for more information regarding these.

Any comments or queries regarding the policies please let me know - I would appreciate  any feedback.

Thank you for your support,

Mr Burnett

Times Table Rock Stars - Numbots - Multiplication and Number Fluency

We use Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) to support fluency with multiplication facts that really support children's develop in Maths. This supports classes with daily multiplication support in school but is also a great way to support children with learning at home.

In EYFS we use Numbots which is similar to TTRS but helps develop early number knowledge such as substising, number bonds and early calculation work. Again, this is used frequently in school but we encourage children to access it at home for additional practice.

Practice should be short and sweet! A “little and often” approach; 3 minutes practice a day, 4 or 5 times a week is a good target.

For more information or support with logging in please speak with your class teacher.
