Phonics Screening Materials
This phonics screening pack is the 2012 paper used to test year 1 children’s decoding (reading) ability. For the last few years, the pass mark has been 32/40. Your child has worked really hard to achieve this pass mark over the last 2 terms and we would really love them to keep up their enthusiasm and progress. If possible, over the next week we would like you to help your child access this practice paper. We are aware all testing for this year has been cancelled but when testing and normality resumes, we would hate for your child’s confidence to have taken a knock. We will be updating this phonics screen weekly (next week will be 2013).
Using the screener: Ask your child to read each word aloud, they are able to sound the word out but do need to then put the sounds together to get the mark. For example: c-a-t... cat. You may want to track your child’s progress but this is not necessary. The children love reading their alien words so this will be something familiar and fun!
Please note: there is a blank page between each set so keep scrolling down, there are 40 words.
