Reading and Phonics
Richard Hill Primary School are very pleased to say that we are using Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised to teach phonics and early reading as of August 2022.
Our whole school staff have been trained in Little Wandle regardless of if they teach phonics and early reading on a daily basis. We, in line with Little Wandle, believe that reading can change lives. It gives children access to the wider curriculum and they are able to read to learn. By cracking the code of phonics it allows for reading to open the door to life long learning opportunities. Our fidelity to Little Wandle ensures that there is;
- Clear progression for all year groups
- Effective teaching of phonics everyday for those that are starting their reading and phonics journey or beyond where appropriate
- Early intervention when children fall behind
- Robust ongoing assessment
